Activities

The Record Street Home is an active place!

The Director of Resident Services always finds new and different activities that involve the residents and promote physical and mental health. A sense of community develops from the many organized activities as the residents gather and share fun with word games, exercises, crafts, cards and bingo.

Many interesting programs are presented during the year by groups from the Frederick community including musical programs and lectures. Healing touch, an energy based approach to healing is available. Religious programs including bible studies, monthly ministerial service, and communion for various denominations are offered. Another favorite is shuffleboard. It has become quite a spirited contest between teams. Shopping trips, walks in the park, ice cream socials, The Strawberry Festival, and special dinners are activities enjoyed by the residents.

Saturday matinee movies, special monthly social hour, and the "late sleepers morning breakfast" are other activities that take place. Computers in the activity room can be used for sending email to relatives and to play games such as solitaire. A puzzle table is always up and a project is often in progress for those who find satisfaction in putting things together. Sing-a-longs, story telling, and discussions on Great Decisions are favorites of the residents. Participation is encouraged but not mandatory. The residents have lots of choices!
